A Day in Nagano

The first full day with my host family was a holiday, so we traveled to Nagano prefecture. The 1998 Winter Olympics were held in Nagano. Skiing is a popular sport in the area.

We visited a town called Ida that had an historical village. It was fun designing and creating scarves with traditional plant-based dying techniques for fabrics.

On our way home we stopped at some local shops and watched an artisan make this beautiful crane.

Green tea and this pretty dessert was the perfect way to end such a special day. The dessert was made of fruits, mochi (a soft, chewy rice ball) and azuki (a sweet treat made with red beans).
