Shining Stars

Our fifth grade students really shined during these past two weeks as they ran a donation drive to benefit the Buddy Foundation and Kay's Animal Shelter. The fifth grade students took the lead in publicizing the event during morning announcements. They made posters and decorated collection boxes, which they placed throughout the school. Fifth grade students were responsible for sorting, counting, packing and delivering the supplies they collected. We are so proud of their leadership and efforts! Thank you to our PTA leaders for guiding our fifth grade students on this special project. We are also grateful to the Dryden community for all the generous donations of pet supplies. You will make many dogs and cats very happy!

The generosity and kindness of the Dryden community also shined at our recent PTA Family Skate Night and food drive to benefit the Wheeling Food Pantry. The PTA collected two van-fulls of food! It was so fun to see so many students, families, teachers and former Dolphins skating together.

Our students were truly starstruck to see author/illustrator Peter Brown come to Dryden. They had been reading The Wild Robot with their teachers and learning about Peter Brown's other books while in the LMC. It was so fascinating to hear Peter Brown talk about how he gets ideas for his books and works at his craft of writing and illustrating. It was especially exciting to watch Peter Brown draw a popular tiger character from his book!

Each year, while the weather is not so nice outside, I have recess bunches in my office with every student at Dryden in grades 1-5. It's very important to me to know each child on a personal level, to learn about their interests and to hear their ideas for making Dryden the best school we can be. I'm always touched by how genuinely appreciative they are of their kind and caring teachers and classmates. Truly, all of our staff, students and families at Dryden are shining stars! Together we make Dryden rock!
